Patriot Ordnance Factory’s story began in 2002, when aerospace engineer and avid shooter Frank DeSomma set out to solve the persistent reliability issues of the AR-15 platform in harsh environments. Working from his garage, DeSomma developed the regulated short-stroke gas piston system, a breakthrough that virtually eliminated carbon fouling and improved timing in AR-style rifles. As demand grew, the company expanded from a family-run operation to a dedicated manufacturing facility in Phoenix, Arizona. Overcoming the challenges of a competitive industry, POF-USA distinguished itself through relentless innovation, introducing features like the integral bolt-carrier key, oversized heat-sink barrel nut, and advanced coatings for enhanced durability. Major milestones include becoming the first U.S. manufacturer to offer gas-piston ARs, rapid growth during periods of high demand, and the construction of a state-of-the-art factory with in-house testing capabilities. Despite the passing of its founder in 2020, POF-USA continues to honor DeSomma’s vision of engineering excellence and American pride, striving to set new standards in firearm reliability and performance for shooters worldwide.
